A solar regulator, is an essential part of every solar charging kit. Themain role of a controller is to protect and automate the charging of thebattery. It does this in several ways:

       1.Without a regulator between a solar panel and a battery, the panel wouldovercharge the battery by generating too much voltage for the battery toprocess, seriously damaging the battery.

       2.The regulator detects when the battery’s voltage is too low. When the batterydrops below a certain level of voltage, the regulator disconnects the load fromthe battery in order to prevent the battery from being drained.

Acompletely drained battery will lose some of its overall capacity.

Lowvoltage can still damage the battery if the load is connected.

       3.The regulator stops any current from flowing back into the solar panel atnight.
